Santa Maria Beach
Santa Maria Beach extends along the town of Santa Maria on a length of approximately17 kilometres and its width reaches 200 metres in some points. It is famous for its crystal-clear water and white sand. Santa Maria Beach offers ideal conditions for perfect holidays, as well for singles, as for couples and families with children.
The beach is surrounded with hotels and restaurants. A variety of attractions as marine excursions and organized water sports are available on the beach. The facilities include also surf-rentals. The best conditions for windsurfing on Santa Maria Beach occur between November and May.
Water Sports
Sal is famous for its water sports and hosts many international surf, wind surf and kite surf championships throughout the season. Conditions are so perfect for these sports that the island has many home grown world champions. All levels of competancy are catered for with simple equipment hire through to lessons for beginers. There are equipment hire sheds all along Santa Maria beach and throughout the island. Equipment can also be hired on Villa Verde complex and there is also ample storage in the apartments if enthusiasts wish to bring thier own kit.
Island Hopping
There are 10 islands that make up the Cape Verde Archepologo. Those with more time or a yearning for more than a just a beach holiday may wish to visit one or more of the other islands, The variety of these islands has to be seen to be believed. Some are giant beaches, some verdant and green and even some mountainous and volcanic. There are flights and boat trips to most of the islands and accomodation can be arranged on some of the more popular, but be aware that some are so unspoilt that they dont have roads or cars as yet. So do your research and if you are feeling adventurous go for it!.
Vehicle Hire
Although taxis are numerous and relativly cheap all types of vehical hire is available. Bikes can be hired from many venues (including Villa Verde complex) and the going can vary from the very flat coast line to off road excursions. Quad bikes are also very popular and can be hired or guided excursions off the beaten track might be more attractive. Car hire is also available but is often not nessesary as most places are within walking distance or a short taxi ride. But dont miss out on the many site seeing or fishing boat rides available all along the coast. Catch your own supper and cook it on the BBQ on the balcony!
